Artist Inspiration- Yaacov Agam
.jpg)
The other day I came across a paper I wrote for class about the artist Yaacov Agam, and instantly I decided to play with his works. long before Magic Eye he created op art that uses mainly vertical lines and strong colors. His work is primarily three dimensional, so as you move the colors you see change and so the design changes. These are called Agamographs. While I can't make 3D pathtag designs I think I did pretty well with the whole squint-and-see idea that Magic Eye used.
They are all under the miscellaneous page.

What's In A Name?
Someone asked me why this blog is called "Artistic Whims". The answer is simple, really. I don't like to work with just one subject, color palette, genre, etc. Although I am not formally trained in them, throughout my studies I have worked in lots of different mediums: glass, metal, clay, wax relief, silk prints, paints, pencils, paper making, etc. I am also a professional photographer.
I began all of this in summer camps and Saturday classes held by the local College Of Art when I was about 6 years old. By the time I was about 20, and part of the way through a degree in psychology, I realised that art was more than just a hobby, it was a passion. This site blends all of my artistic whims with my geocaching hobby.

Wow, How We've Grown!
.jpg)
This site has grown so quickly that I have had to reorganize again. How wonderful! The designs have been split up into several pages based on subject to help in navigating, but be sure to check out all of them. Please feel free to comment as it helps me know what you think, what you want to see, or see more of, etc. Also, vote in the poll! (If you choose 'other' please let me know what kind of other.)

Mandala Madness and More
.jpg)
I've been playing with mandalas lately. Traditionally mandalas are religious (Hindu and Buddhist) sacred art depicting "progressively deeper levels of unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arise". I think they're beautiful. When I was little I had a mandala coloring book, so making these brought back memories.
I can't guarantee the plant will be able to make all of the little fiddly bits in the centers of some, but I tried to be sure they were all large enough.

Isn't It Pretty?
I decided we needed a more artistic feel here, so the site has been redesigned. New look, same great taste!
So we had a wonderful 'un-event' at the children's garden yesterday. Families came to meet up with cachers, learn about the sport and hunt for some new caches. It was very fun. We paired up veteran cachers with the newbies and off everyone went! Very fun. Pictures to follow, I'm sure.

Greetings And Such!

I've added more to the for sale page (of course!) and on the suggestion of a fellow path-tagger I've also expanded the Disney section. *note* Disney owns the copyrights to the characters. No copyright infringement in intended, more of an 'homage'.
